BIS Certification Overview
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), abbreviated as BIS, is responsible for product certification, with 5 regional offices and 19 sub-offices under its jurisdiction.
The BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification is a mandatory market access certification in India. Tests must be conducted in qualified laboratories within India. The Indian BIS is a third-party certification body, and products certified by it are marked with the ISI label, which holds a significant influence and good reputation in India and neighboring countries, serving as a reliable guarantee for product quality. Products bearing the "ISI mark" indicate compliance with Indian standards, allowing consumers to purchase with confidence. As of August 13, 2015, all portable products must have their rechargeable batteries registered with BIS. Cells are required to obtain separate BIS registration only when being commercially traded in the Indian market.

Local regulations in India
Foreign producers must obtain authorization from the Reserve Bank of India to establish a liaison office or branch in India. Such liaison office or branch must comply with all the laws, regulations, and rules of the BIS.

3. The manufacturer has an authorized agent in India, who, according to the terms and conditions of the agreement signed between the BIS and the foreign manufacturer, represents the manufacturer in declaring compliance with the BIS 1986 Act, Regulations, and Rules and is responsible for the same.
BIS Certification Principles
1. Some Products are Voluntarily Certified: India's product certification follows a voluntary principle, aimed at providing end consumers with products that are guaranteed in quality and safety.
2. Mandatory Certification for Some Products: In consideration of public health and safety, as well as consumer interests, India has issued an immediate decree mandating certification for certain products. The Bureau of Indian Standards is responsible for granting certification certificates, while the actual enforcement is carried out by relevant authorities.
BIS logo requirements
Upon successful product registration, the following declaration must be present on both the product and its outer packaging: Self Declaration-CoCertified to ISO Standard No., R-xxxxxxxx
Font size must not be smaller than 12 points or one-half the size of the logo font (whichever is smaller), but cannot be less than 6 points.
2. The statement can be placed on the label, or can be independent of it, represented on the product in the form of screen-printed, embossed, or debossed metal labels, ensuring it is clearly visible and durable.
3. Individual metal labels must be securely fastened in a slot and also printed in a prominent position on the outer packaging.

1、 CoContinuous low-rate charging: Charge according to the manufacturer's method for 28 days.

2. Vibration Testing: Simulating vibrations that occur during transportation.

3. Moulded case stress at high ambient temperature: When batteries are used under high ambient temperatures, internal components must not be exposed.
Acceptance Criteria: No physical distortion of the battery case that results in exposure of internal components.
4. Temperature cycling: Batteries must not ignite or explode when alternately exposed to high and low temperatures.
Adherence Criteria: No fire, no explosion, no leakage.
5. Incorrect installation of a cell (Nickel system only): Simulated incorrect installation of a single-core battery in a multi-core configuration, which must not cause fire or explosion.
Acceptance Criteria: No fire, no explosion.
6. External short circuit: The positive and negative poles cannot ignite or explode.

7. Free fall: The battery, upon falling from a height of 1 meter to the floor, must not ignite or explode.
Acceptance Criteria: No fire, no explosion.
8. Mechanical shock (crash hazard): Simulated impacts encountered during transportation or handling, which must not cause fire or explosion, or leakage.
Adherence Standards: No fire, no explosion, no leakage.
9. Thermal abuse: When a battery cannot ignite or explode at a certain temperature (130 degrees).
Acceptance Criteria: No fire, no explosion.
10. Cell Crushing Test: Applying a 13KN force to the battery does not cause it to ignite or explode.
Acceptance Criteria: No fire, no explosion.
11. Low pressure: Simulated low pressure (11.6 Kp) encountered during air transportation, which cannot ignite or explode.
Admission Criteria: No fire, no explosion, no leakage.
12. Overcharge for nickel systems: Charging batteries or cells to 250% of rated capacity with 2.5 times the recommended charging current for nickel systems, ensuring no ignition or explosion.
Adherence Standards: No fire, no explosion.
13. Overcharge for lithium systems: Charging lithium systems for extended periods as per the manufacturer's specified charging method prevents them from catching fire or exploding.
Acceptance Criteria: No fire, no explosion.
14. Forced Discharge: In devices containing multiple cells, a single cell must withstand polarity reversal without igniting or exploding.

15. Cell protection against high charging rates (lithium systems only): Prevents fires or explosions in chargers or battery packs with cells in parallel, which are subjected to excessive charging currents.
Admission Criteria: No fire, no explosion.
IS 16046: 2012 is equivalent to the standard content of IEC 62133:2002, with no differences in the testing items.
BIS Certification Do's and Don'ts
1. The registrant is the factory, but local agent information is required during the application process.
2. One factory, one certificate; one trademark, one certificate.
3. The registration certificate is valid for 2 years.
