IESNA LM-80 LED Lumen Maintenance Aging Test System

Amid the wave of LED innovation in the global lighting industry, many countries are implementing the establishment, testing, and certification of LED lighting product standards to regulate and promote the healthy and vigorous development of the LED market, with the U.S. Energy Star certification being a prime example. Currently, the U.S., Canada, and Australia are intensifying efforts to promote Energy Star testing and certification, as selling products with the Energy Star label in North America qualifies for subsidies, leading to an increasing number of LED manufacturers actively pursuing Energy Star applications and certifications.


 


The typical Energy Star certification process takes nearly a year, which, in the rapidly changing international market, is akin to throttling a company's throat. As a result, numerous LED manufacturers have been searching for shortcuts, striving to obtain a fast-track pass to the international market while cutting costs. The introduction of the LM-80 certification brings a ray of hope, significantly reducing the certification timeline. For companies with an LM-80 test report, it's essentially a fast-track pass.


 


The LM-80 test imposes strict requirements on the case temperature Ts and ambient temperature Ta, stipulating that Ta must be greater than or equal to Ts - 5°C. Specifically, the case temperature Ts refers to the air temperature 1.5mm away from the LED case. Currently, domestic laboratories and packaging manufacturers use precision constant-temperature ovens to achieve LED constant-temperature aging. However, due to the significant heat generated by the LED itself, these ovens can only control the ambient temperature Ta, not the case temperature Ts, nor can they maintain a temperature deviation between Ts and Ta of -5°C. Particularly for high-power devices, the heat generation is substantial, leading to a very high case temperature Ts. Often, the actual case temperature Ts is significantly higher than the set temperature, resulting in product failure after 6000 hours and test results that deviate from expectations, severely affecting performance.
