The previous screw thread processing was done through turning, with the process route being: cold drawing + knurling + turning threads + alignment → drilling + cutting + chamfering. This method was not only inefficient and costly but also prone to deformation during turning and knurling due to the low stiffness of small round steel. Regarding the T28*5 trapezoidal screw, it is difficult to produce small-sized sprockets. To address this, we have designed a whirlwind milling screw thread machine. It not only increases the rotational speed from the previously experienced 1000 r/min to over 2000 r/min but also completes the milling and knurling in one operation. The new process route is: cold drawing + knurling, milling threads + alignment + drilling, cutting → chamfering. Although whirlwind milling may cause significant deformation in small-diameter workpieces (larger components have less deformation), alignment is still manageable. The improved process has the following characteristics:

The cumulative pitch error of the small path workpiece has a certain increase.

Do not lubricate or cool the roll-threading cutter while in use to prevent damage to the adjacent carbide cutting blades.
First, start the lathe to rotate the workpiece, then tighten the screw to prevent excessive static friction and the workpiece from slipping.
