Reason: The data acquisition frequency protocol of the gas chromatography workstation is too close to the serial mouse protocol, which may be mistaken for a serial mouse during connection (will generate a "Microsoft Serial Ballpoint" device in Device Manager), occupying the computer's serial port, resulting in the inability of the workstation software to connect.

Solution: Click "My Computer," right-click, select "Properties," then choose "Device Manager" in the pop-up dialog. In Device Manager, expand "Mouse and Other Pointing Devices," select "Microsoft Serial Ballpoint," right-click, and click "Disable Device."
