The cable is limited to installations in waters with a depth of up to 500 meters. Self-contained oil-filled cables are suitable for DC or AC power lines up to 750kV. Due to their oil-filled design, they can be easily laid in waters as deep as 500 meters. Compression-insulated (cross-linked polyethylene, ethylene propylene rubber) cables are suitable for AC voltages up to 200kV. Ethylene propylene rubber is more effective in preventing treeing and local discharge than polyethylene, enhancing the cable's performance undersea. "Oil-pressure" tube cables are only suitable for short cable systems, as the mechanical limitations are significant when pulling extremely long cables into the pipes. Inflated (pressure-assisted) cables, using inflated cables with impregnated paper insulation are more suitable for longer undersea cable networks than oil-filled cables. However, the need to operate at high pressures underwater increases the complexity of designing the cables and their accessories, usually limiting usage to depths of 300 meters or less.

With a large cross-sectional capacity, the cables not only have a high flow rate but also possess significant overload capacity. Typically, the cable surface temperature is ≤70℃ according to wiring requirements. If the wiring is not touchable or does not come into contact with combustible building materials, the cable jacket temperature can reach 105℃. During overload, the working temperature of fire-resistant cables can reach up to 250℃.
