The communication cable is composed of multiple insulated conductors or conductors forming the cable core, which is enclosed by a sealed sheath. Some models also feature an outer protective layer. It is available in various laying methods, such as overhead, direct burial, pipeline, and underwater. Suitable for transmitting railway control signals, audio signals, or fixed installations of certain automatic devices over AC voltages of up to 500V or DC voltages of up to 1000V.

If categorized by cable type, communication cables can be divided into the following three categories:

1. Single-core wire: Refers to the original communication cable, a single-core loop, with the earth as the return path.

2. Symmetrical Cable: Composed of a loop formed by two conductors that are identical under ideal conditions.

3. Coaxial Cable: Consists of two conductors, an inner and an outer, forming a loop along the same axis. The outer conductor encloses the inner conductor, with both being insulated from each other.

If categorized by application, communication cables can be further divided into the following three types:

Long-distance Cables: These cables have long transmission distances, are typically multiplexed, and are usually buried underground. In some cases, they are installed overhead or placed in conduits.

2. Indoor Cable: The wires inside the cable are "paired up," and there are many pairs. They are generally installed in conduits, with a small amount of indoor cable being hung on buildings or installed overhead.

3. Utility Cables: Primarily refers to communication cables used within telecommunication offices, typically mounted on distribution racks or sometimes placed in cable trays. Utility cables are employed for transmitting signals between equipment and switching systems within the telecommunication office, as well as for internal connections of other office equipment. For fire prevention purposes, flame-retardant sheathings may be applied to utility cables within the office.
