Details Introduction
Polytetrafluoroethylene, known as the "Plastic King," was first researched as a substitute for Freon by Roy Plunkett at DuPont in the United States in 1936. They collected some tetrafluoroethylene and stored it in steel cylinders, planning to conduct further experiments the next day. However, when they opened the relief valve on the cylinder the following day, no gas溢出. They thought it was a leak, but when they weighed the cylinder, it hadn't lost any weight. They cut open the cylinder and found a large amount of white powder, which was polytetrafluoroethylene.
PTFE has a high density of 2.14-2.20 g/cm³, is nearly impermeable to water, with a moisture regain rate less than 0.01%. PTFE is a typical soft and weak polymer; intermolecular attractions between macromolecules are weak, resulting in low stiffness, hardness, and strength. Under long-term stress, it can deform.
PTFE is prone to creep when loaded, being a typical plastic with cold flow properties. The creep of PTFE varies with the compression stress, temperature, and crystallinity; the higher the temperature, the greater the creep.
The crystallinity of PTFE ranges between 55%-80%, with creepage not exceeding 2%; when the crystallinity is below 55% or above 80%, the creepage rapidly increases. An excellent characteristic of PTFE in terms of mechanical properties is its low coefficient of friction, which is between 0.01-0.10, the smallest among existing plastic materials, and even all engineering materials.
PTFE rods are available in extruded and molded types. Among known plastics, PTFE boasts excellent chemical resistance and dielectric properties for PTFE rods, making them usable within a temperature range of -180℃ to +260℃. They also feature a low coefficient of friction and are primarily used for long products and non-standard mechanical components: seals/washers, ring materials, wear-resistant plates/electrodes, insulating parts, corrosion-resistant industries, mechanical parts, linings, oil and gas, petrochemical industry, chemical industry, and instrument equipment manufacturers.
PTFE features high-temperature resistance and a low coefficient of friction, making it an ideal coating for the inner layer of cleanable water pipes, in addition to its lubricating properties.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) boasts chemical resistance over other plastics, making it widely used as sealing and filling materials. The dispersion liquid can be used as an insulating immersion liquid for materials and as a corrosion-resistant coating on metal, glass, and ceramic surfaces.
Pure polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sheet performance features:
Resistant to strong acids and alkalis; almost resistant to all chemical media, excluding molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine.
2. Excellent insulation properties with superior resistance to aging and climate.
3. Low friction coefficient, not prone to sticking, easy to install and dismantle
4. Product clean, suitable for sealed parts in food, medicine, etc. that do not allow contamination
5. High mechanical strength, excellent turning properties, and easy to process into various sealing products.
5. Low linear thermal expansion coefficient; prone to cold flow and stress relaxation when compressed, and creep occurs at high temperatures, making it unsuitable for high-temperature and high-pressure applications.
PTFE rods, tubes, films, bearings, washers, valves, and other non-standard materials and components are widely used in mechanical, chemical, electrical, electronic, industrial, technological, health, and electrical insulation fields.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), commonly known as "non-stick coating" or "easy-to-clean material," is an artificially synthesized high polymer material in which all the atoms in polyethylene are replaced by fluorine. This material is characterized by its resistance to acids, bases, and organic solvents, and is virtually insoluble in all solvents. Additionally, PTFE has the property of withstanding high temperatures, boasts a low coefficient of friction, and thus serves not only as a lubricant but also as an ideal coating for non-stick cookware and the inner layer of water pipes.
