Firstly, let's普及 a little about talc. Talc is a known very soft natural mineral. How does it form? Magnesium-rich rocks are buried deep underground, and over centuries, the internal crystal structure becomes particularly soft and crumbles easily. After being crushed and purified, it turns into talc powder, which is especially suitable as a lubricant and whitening agent. Its main components are magnesium, silicon, and oxygen, all of which are common inert substances. Talc powder is made from ground talc and primarily consists of magnesium silicate. It has a smooth texture, is white, odorless, and water-insoluble, and is stable against heat and has strong resistance to acids and bases. 1. In Europe, the United States, and international standards, talc is a legal food additive. 2. Food-grade talc does not contain asbestos fibers, thus eliminating any carcinogenic risks (asbestos fibers are carcinogenic). 3. There are cases of improper use of talc in nuts and dried fruits, tea, and flour, primarily involving fraud with limited harm. 4. Talc has a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors. The claim that talc is carcinogenic arises from the fact that its formation process can be accompanied by asbestos fibers, a known carcinogen. Since it is extremely fine, removing this substance is cumbersome, and some unscrupulous merchants may not filter talc adequately to save costs, resulting in many talc products being inadvertently carcinogenic. Secondly, talc is often included in many foods, especially those that are naturally sticky, where it serves as a separator and anti-sticking agent. For instance, in dried mangoes or preserved plums, you might notice a white powdery coating, which is talc.
