PA6T nylon resin offers good processing fluidity, benefits from large-scale, stable industrial production, and has a relatively low selling price, making it a preferred choice in the consumption of the five major engineering plastics due to its advantageous price-performance ratio. However, nylon has relatively poor impact resistance at low temperatures, and the elastic modulus is relatively low. This is especially true due to its high water absorption, which affects the dimensional stability of the products, and does not meet the requirements for environmental stress resistance and high processing precision. To expand the applications of nylon and improve its performance, a simple yet effective method for PA6T materials is to add other components to nylon, utilizing the performance advantages of other polymers to compensate for its shortcomings, aiming for high added value and low cost. High-toughness and wear-resistant PA alloys can be roughly divided into four categories: 1) blending with inorganic fillers, 2) blending with polyolefins, olefin copolymers, and elastomers, 3) blending with engineering plastics, and 4) blending between various types of nylon to combine the characteristics of different nylons. Blending with inorganic materials such as minerals, glass fibers, and carbon fibers is an effective means of plastic modification. Although the toughening effect of inorganic materials is not as good as that of elastomers, they can improve the tensile strength of nylon while enhancing its PA toughness.
PA6T, also known as poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide), is a heat-resistant nylon 6T/66 developed by Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., a Japanese company. It is a copolymer of PA6T and PA66.
Excellent reflow solderability of PA6T, with a high melting point (310℃) and high thermal deformation temperature (about 290℃), thus demonstrating superior reflow solderability. Its superior reflow solderability makes PA6T particularly suitable for electronic connectors used in surface mount technology (SMT).
