Most plant enthusiasts cultivate lucky bamboo, preferring hydroponic methods. This is because hydroponics is convenient, and in traditional Chinese feng shui, water symbolizes wealth, making hydroponic lucky bamboo even more auspicious. If you've decided on hydroponic lucky bamboo, be mindful of these three points during care to ensure its continuous growth, lush foliage, and ever-rising branches, bringing us a steady stream of good luck!
1. Number of root-banded bamboo in hydroponics
When cultivating lucky bamboo in water during the New Year, everyone hopes for good luck, so they should also pay attention to the number of roots they choose. Generally, 1, 3, 8, or 9 roots are considered ideal for hydroponic lucky bamboo.
1 bamboo plant symbolizes success and prosperity, like a fish in water; 3 bamboo plants represent harmony between heaven, earth, and people, and prosperity; 8 bamboo plants signify a continuous flow of wealth; 9 bamboo plants symbolize wedding joy. Choose the number of bamboo plants according to your New Year's wishes, but beware of avoiding 2, 5, and 7 bamboo plants for hydroponic cultivation, as they carry negative meanings!
2. Pre-treatment Methods Before Hydroponics
Before hydroponically cultivating lucky bamboo, it's essential to prepare properly to ensure its vigorous growth. Firstly, select fresh lucky bamboo, remove any withered and dried leaves, clean the root, and then trim it diagonally at a 45-degree angle with a sharp scissor before proceeding with the hydroponic method.
For bamboo plant hydroponics, choose clean water; filtered water from a water purifier or distilled water are both suitable. During hydroponics, do not allow the water level to be too high, as this hinders stem respiration and can lead to rot. Generally, the water should just cover the root base of the bamboo plant by about 10 centimeters.
Bamboo Phyllostachys Nigra in hydroponics may have low water levels. If the branches and leaves are lush, it's inevitable to have a top-heavy, bottom-light condition. Flower enthusiasts can choose taller vases for hydroponics or place some large pieces of stone (pebbles) at the bottom of the vase to prevent the top-heavy, bottom-light situation during hydroponics!
