Wool felt is an ancient textile with a long history, its manufacturing methods having been sown as far back as the Roman era, a craft skill well-known across Europe.

There are many legends about the origin of wool felt, one of which is amusingly attributed to the guardian saint, Clement, of Western shoemakers. Once, St. Clement, in a desperate bid to escape from his pursuers in the woods, ran frantically. His feet began to ache and burn, but he was determined to outpace his relentless enemies. He discovered some wool in the forest and stopped to gather it, wrapping the wool around his feet to alleviate the pain before slipping them back into his shoes and continuing his sprint. Upon finally reaching safety, he removed his aching feet from his shoes to find they had transformed into a pair of felt shoes. From then on, wool felt was widely used in religious rituals, becoming a sacred item to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune.
Later, people discovered that wool possesses high-quality properties such as non-woven, monolithic, insulating, waterproof, flame-retardant, colorfast, and heat-insulating characteristics. This led to wool being used as a premium material for artistic craftsmanship, ultimately elevating wool felt art to the pinnacle of the art world.
