Traffic signs are safety facilities used in traffic management, conveying specific information through graphics, symbols, and text. They provide road users with information on traffic rules, such as prohibition or restriction signs for vehicle and pedestrian traffic behaviors; directional signs indicating the movement of vehicles and pedestrians; warning signs that provide cautionary information, like alerting drivers and pedestrians to dangerous locations; guide signs for conveying information about roads, locations, distances, and so on; and also traffic signs that serve other traffic participants, including providing information about tourist attractions.

Directional signboards are a crucial category of traffic signs, used to convey route information to drivers. Although road information facilities are continuously being updated and developed, directional sign information remains the primary source of road information. Even when using in-car navigation systems, drivers still need to rely on directional sign information to determine if the route chosen is correct.
