PVC is a white powder with an amorphous structure, having low branching degree, a relative density of about 1.4, and a glass transition temperature of 77-90°C. Decomposition begins around 170°C [1]. It has poor stability to light and heat; above 100°C or after prolonged exposure to sunlight, it decomposes to produce HCl, which further auto-catalytically decomposes, causing discoloration, and rapidly deteriorates its physical and mechanical properties. In practical applications, stabilizers must be added to enhance its stability against heat and light.
