Product Details

Iron and manganese filter

I. Product Features
Underground water often contains some dissolved iron and manganese salts, affecting the water's color; in addition, the accumulation of iron and manganese sediments on pipe walls and filter media can also reduce the water conveyance capacity and impact water treatment.
Iron and manganese filter is mainly used to remove iron and manganese substances from the system, purify water quality; it can also be used for water de-coloring, de-odoring, and de-tasting.

II. Applicability Scope
Primarily used for food, beverage, papermaking, brewing industries, treatment of water with excessive iron content, groundwater, well water for drinking water iron removal, geothermal projects, and swimming pool recirculation water requirements.
Section 3: Product Features
The water output quality is stable, with high iron and manganese removal efficiency, and low operation and maintenance costs.
Compared to natural oxidation iron removal, it doesn't require extensive reaction sediment structures, occupying less land area.

V. Working Principle
The iron and manganese filter utilizes oxidation to convert ferrous and manganous ions in water into ferric and manganic ions, and then removes them through adsorption and filtration, thereby reducing the iron and manganese content in the water.
Our iron and manganese filter, produced by our company, utilizes jet aeration through well pump remaining pressure, tubular mixing dissolved oxygen, disk-type aeration degassing, and contact oxidation filtration processes. This technology shifts the external aeration oxidation of traditional equipment to the inside, allowing the equipment to operate solely with the remaining pressure of the well pump. It boasts significant advantages such as low energy consumption, simple process, stable performance, and cost-effective comprehensive investment. Among them:
1. Bubble Method: Firstly, it increases the dissolved oxygen in the water; secondly, it expels CO2 to elevate the water's pH, allowing the iron (II) to oxidize into iron (III) and precipitate, which is then filtered out.
2. Filtration: One aspect is to remove flocs formed by ferric iron; the other is to catalytically oxidize most of the non-oxidized ferrous iron and perform ion exchange due to hydroxyl oxidation, to achieve iron removal. The filtered iron sludge can be recycled and utilized.
Among them, the filter media includes two types: quartz sand and natural manganese sand. The former is used for raw water with iron content below 4mg/L and pH value above 6.8, while the latter is suitable for raw water with iron content below 20mg/L and pH value above 6.
The principle of manganese removal is the same as that of ferric removal.

8. Selection Instructions
Equipment Selection
(1). Depending on water quality, choose a level one or two treatment system. Select a single or parallel system based on water volume.
(2). The iron and manganese removal process should be determined based on the following conditions:
When the raw water iron content is below 10mg/L and manganese content is below 0.5mg/L, a single-stage treatment system is used. For iron content less than 20mg/L or manganese content greater than 1mg/L, a two-stage iron and manganese removal system is employed.
When the raw water iron content is below 2.0 mg/L and manganese content is below 1.5 mg/L, the following method can be adopted:
Raw Water Aeration - Single Stage Filtration Iron and Manganese Removal
b. When the original water's iron or manganese content exceeds the aforementioned values, it should be determined through testing. Methods may include:
Raw water aeration—oxidation—primary iron removal by filtration—secondary manganese removal by filtration
c. When the desulfurization is affected by silicate, it should be determined through testing. If necessary, the following methods can be adopted:
Raw Water Aeration — Primary Iron Removal (Contact Oxidation) — Aeration — Secondary Manganese Removal
(3). The pH value of the pre-filter water in manganese filter pools should ideally be above 7.5, and the iron content in the pre-filter water of the secondary filtration manganese filter pool should be controlled below 0.5 mg/L.
2. Equipment Installation and Operation
Manganese sand must be regenerated periodically with potassium permanganate (KMnO4), otherwise it will lose its oxidizing capacity after a period of time.
