The function of 32.768KHz

The 32.768KHz crystal oscillator is commonly used for timing purposes, serving as a time基准 in various applications. It is utilized in clocks, computer motherboard timing, and other circuits requiring timing functions.

The internal structure is due to the fact that 32768 is 2 to the power of 15. When the signal from a 32.768kHz crystal oscillator is connected to a 16-bit counter, each change in the 16th digit corresponds exactly to 1 second. This allows for timing.

32.768 kHz is a significant number that we use daily, offering numerous benefits. Yet, few people pay attention to it, focusing only on the evolving digits it brings. A 32.768 kHz frequency is easily divided to produce a 1-second clock frequency, as 32,768 is equal to 2 raised to the power of 15. The clocks displayed on our watches, phones, and computers are derived from this frequency.

32.768 kHz model

32.768KHz crystal oscillators are a common frequency, with the Epson EPSON, Seiko SEIKO, and Jinyxing JINYX all offering a series of crystal oscillators at this frequency. These are available in two types: surface mount devices (SMD) and cylindrical plug-in devices (DIP). For inquiries, please contact Jinyxing Electronics at any time.

The 32.768KHz crystal oscillators typically have an accuracy of ±20PPM and ±10PPM, and are categorized into two types: passive 32.768K crystal oscillators and active 32.768K crystal oscillators. The TCXO temperature-compensated crystal oscillators in the active 32.768KHz crystal oscillator series offer high precision, with a frequency accuracy of ±5ppm (-40°C to +85°C). They feature high precision, low power consumption, and compact size, and are primarily used in smart wearables, the Internet of Things market, and handheld devices.

Application Issues of 32.768kHz

The real-time clock inside a computer operates similarly to a quartz clock; it will not run without power. During startup, it is powered by the computer's power supply unit, and after shutdown, it is powered by the motherboard battery. A dedicated circuit switches power from the motherboard battery to the power supply unit. If the real-time clock runs accurately during startup, it indicates that power is being supplied normally to the 32.768k crystal oscillator, and the oscillator itself is also functioning correctly; however, if the clock stops running after shutdown and power is disconnected, it suggests a fault in the switching circuit, as the motherboard battery cannot supply power to the 32.768K crystal oscillator, causing it to stop oscillating, and thus the clock stops. Therefore, this type of fault should focus on inspecting the circuit between the motherboard battery and the 32768. Pay particular attention to the switching circuit. Often, a single faulty component can cause this issue.
