Regardless of whether the Chongqing I-beam is a standard or light I-beam, due to the relatively high and narrow cross-sectional dimensions, the inertia moments of the two main axes of the cross-section differ greatly. Therefore, it can only be used for components that bend within the web plane or form lattice-load-bearing components. It is not suitable for components under axial compression or those with bending perpendicular to the web plane, which greatly limits its application range. The I-beam is widely used in construction and other metal structures.
Due to the relatively high and narrow cross-sectional dimensions of ordinary and light I-beams, the moment of inertia of the two main axes of the cross-section varies greatly, thus their application scope is very limited. The selection of I-beams should be made according to the requirements of the design drawings.
In structural design, it is essential to select I-beams rationally based on their mechanical properties, chemical properties, weldability, and structural dimensions.
