Regardless of whether the Chongqing I-beam is a standard or light I-beam, due to the relatively high and narrow cross-sectional dimensions, there is a significant difference in the inertia moments of the two main axes. As a result, it can only be used for components subjected to bending within the web plane or as lattice-type load-bearing elements. It is not suitable for axially compressed components or those with bending perpendicular to the web plane, which greatly limits its application range. The I-beam is widely used in construction and other metal structures.
Due to the relatively high and narrow cross-sectional dimensions of common I-beams and light I-beams, the inertia moments of the two main axes differ significantly, thus their application range is very limited. The selection of I-beams should be based on the requirements of the design drawings.
In structural design, it is essential to select I-beams based on their mechanical, chemical properties, weldability, and structural dimensions.
