Bituminous waterproofing membranes include: elastomer (SBS) modified bituminous waterproofing membranes, plasticizer (APP) modified bituminous waterproofing membranes, and asphalt composite carcass flexible waterproofing membranes.
Rubber-modified bitumen (SBS) waterproof membrane and plastic-modified bitumen (APP) waterproof membrane are based on polyester or glass fiber felt as the base, while asphalt composite felt flexible waterproof membranes use asphalt as the base material. The composite felts used are typically made of synthetic fiber rags combined with high alkali glass fiber mesh. These materials have poor mechanical properties, are susceptible to mold, have poor water resistance and durability, leading to a short lifespan. They are primarily used in temporary buildings or situations where defense levels are not high.
How should you choose among these three materials?
Packaging Label
The three materials appear quite similar at first glance, so the first thing to inspect is whether the packaging and labeling are standardized. The label must include: the manufacturer's name, trademark, product markings, production date or batch number, production license number, and storage and transportation precautions—none of which can be missing. Each roll of material should be marked, and the marking must strictly follow the sequence stipulated by national standards. Additionally, it is important to note that the storage period for the rolls should generally not exceed one year.
Two: Inspecting the Foundation
By hand-tearing the edge of the roll, you can determine if the carcass matches the markings. Polyester carcass is difficult to tear and break by hand, as asphalt has good affinity with the carcass. Asphalt composite roll materials are often easy to tear, and once torn, you can observe the condition of the carcass.
III. Determination through Physical Property Testing
Rolls of material measuring 1m² are subjected to standard physical and mechanical property testing; products that meet the standard requirements are deemed qualified.
High-performance Waterproof Membrane Roll
Polyethylene High Molecular Weight Waterproof Membranes (Polypropylene, Polyester): Characterized by easy adhesion, high friction coefficient, wide temperature range adaptability, high tensile strength, and strong water resistance. They can be used with various adhesives, have no special requirements for the base material, and can be applied as long as there is no standing water. The surface of the waterproof layer after application can be directly decorated. This product is a non-toxic, pollution-free green environmental protection product.
PVC Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride Waterproof Membrane: Long service life, resistance to aging, high tensile strength, high elongation, and minimal dimensional change after heat treatment. Excellent low-temperature flexibility and adaptability to temperature changes. Good puncture resistance, easy to install, and secure and environmentally friendly during welding without pollution. Resistant to chemical corrosion, suitable for various applications.
TPO Thermoplastic Polyolefin Waterproof Membranes: Excellent weather resistance and weldability, with good performance in withstanding high and low temperatures, resistance to chemical corrosion, heat aging, stability, energy-saving and environmentally friendly, high strength, and excellent sealing and waterproof properties.
