One, Different Principles

The principle of pile head excavation: During the concrete pouring process of the pile body, due to air bubbles or voids in the concrete rising to the pile top during vibration, a mixture of slurry or underwater concrete grout and sand mortar accumulates within a certain range at the pile top. To ensure the strength of the pile body concrete, it is necessary to excavate the void pile above.

2. Piling Principle: After the concrete has cured, the excess concrete needs to be chiseled away, exposing the main reinforcement (rebars) above the pile top elevation. Once the pile foundation passes the quality inspection, the construction of the pile cap can proceed.

Two: Different Construction Methods

1. Piling Head Construction Method:

After the foundation pit excavation, the main reinforcement and sound pipes of the steel cage are first chiseled out using manual jackhammers, followed by the separation of the pile heads, and then the pile heads are lifted out using large-scale machinery.

(2) Method of Construction for Overall Removal of Piling Heads

The pile head overall breaking method involves directly inserting pre-treated composite loose sleeve or PE pipe into the main reinforcement on the outer surface of the exposed cap (or extending into the crown beam) and the sound tube before installing the steel cage. The steel cage is then enclosed within the main reinforcement and the cover tube.

2. Piling Construction Method:

Breaking piles, also known as breaking pile heads, actually requires a lot of skill. Some teams use all-around picks, jackhammers (air drills), and some drills to reach the pile top. First, the concrete protective layer around the reinforcing steel is cut off, exposing the steel. Then, the concrete inside the reinforcing cage is driven around the circumference at about three points, and the top and bottom of the pile are separated using tension (since concrete is very good at withstanding compression but weak at tension).
