Bus Stops Are a Common Sight Across the City, but Qingdao Technological University Students Have Transformed Them into Entrepreneurial and Residential Spaces. Yesterday, reporters learned from the university that Wang Yiqun and Shi Lingwei's design, "BUS 'SO-HO' STOP - The Ant-like Entrepreneurial Station Parasitizing the Urban Bus System," won the national first prize in the National College Student Architectural Design Competition.

Inspiration from Post-Graduation Challenges
One of the designers of the scheme, a senior architecture student at the School of Engineering and Science, Wang Yiqun, told the reporter that the theme of this competition is "My City, My Tomorrow," which requires transforming urban infrastructure to create more space for college graduates to survive, live, and start businesses. The inspiration for Wang Yiqun and her classmate Shi Lingwei came from the frequent difficulties faced by graduates in finding jobs and renting, prompting them to think of a place where students could both live and start a business. "Bus shelters are everywhere, meeting the needs of dense populations and convenient transportation, while the second floor can also be used for living," Wang Yiqun said. According to their design, the function of the bus shelter remains unaffected, and the second floor can be turned into a space of about 20-30 square meters, suitable for business ventures by students and for housing two to four people. The back of the shelter can also be used for stalls or billboards, enabling "one shelter for multiple uses." Furthermore, this scheme combines standardized production with adaptive design, quickly meeting the diverse entrepreneurial needs of a large number of "ant tribe" graduates.
The design proposal wins the national first prize.
Introducing, this National College Student Architectural Design Competition was jointly organized by the Chinese Architectural Society, the National Guidance Committee for Architectural Major in Higher Education Institutions, and China United Engineering Corporation. Over 100 universities, including Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Tianjin University, and the City University of Hong Kong, submitted 746 entries. Under the unanimous approval of academicians such as Mr. He Jingtang from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, "BUS 'SOHO' STOP – The Entrepreneurial Station of the Ants Parasitic on the Urban Bus System" won the national first prize. Wang Yiqun told the reporter that this design scheme not only brought them a prize of 20,000 yuan but also secured job opportunities. The sponsor, China United Engineering Corporation, called to invite them to work for the company, "but we can't go now as we are only graduating next year,哈哈."
