Optimization Study on Welding Properties of Aluminum-Magnesium Plated Sheets
To address issues like air pockets and cracks in the welding of aluminum-magnesium plates, a research team has developed a "low heat input + pulsed current" composite welding process. By controlling the heat input to below 0.8 kJ/mm and using a 1000 Hz pulsed current, magnesium vapor in the weld metal is evenly released, reducing the porosity from the traditional process's 15% to below 0.5%. After applying this technology in the welding of battery brackets for BYD's new energy vehicles, the weld strength reaches 98% of the base material, a 25% increase over galvanized steel welding joints. Currently, this process has been integrated into the ISO 3834 welding quality management system.
