Once the greenhouse is constructed, it requires maintenance and repairs, especially during harsh winters when the load-bearing capacity of the greenhouse increases. If the frame is made of bamboo poles, many may break, and these should be replaced promptly. Broken bamboo poles should be carefully removed to avoid piercing the greenhouse film. If there are only cracks, they can still be used after wrapping with a cloth strip, but future damage should be monitored and replaced accordingly.
1. Avoid using poor-quality film for greenhouse covers. With large temperature differences in winter, it's prone to leakage, leading to high humidity inside the greenhouse, which hinders light exposure. Only high-quality film can prevent these issues. In case of severe weather like heavy snow or hail that can severely damage greenhouses, it's crucial to take preventive measures in advance. Irrigate the plants inside the greenhouse before the cold weather arrives to prevent freezing when temperatures drop. If the weather is cloudy, the temperature inside the greenhouse can plummet; a stove can be used to raise the temperature, or the crop straw around the greenhouse can be burned to produce smoke, driving away the cold and ensuring the indoor temperature rises to keep warm.
In fact, when facing cold weather, such as strong wind conditions, reinforcing the slots at the connections between greenhouses and parts like poles and cables can help reduce the damage caused by strong winds to the greenhouse structure, thereby protecting the greenhouse. Additionally, laying straw mats or grass on top can also safeguard the crops inside the greenhouse and minimize the risk of the film being destroyed by the strong wind.
3. Ensure timely clearing of rain and snow, which can, to some extent, enhance the light exposure for plants, leading to better crop growth.
Certainly, under more favorable conditions, other measures can be taken, such as adding insulation within the greenhouse, like thermal blocks or stoves, or laying plastic film, which can also increase the indoor temperature, allowing crops to grow faster.
