Paints are organic or inorganic, colored, white, or black substances that are almost insoluble in the medium when in a dispersed state. Color pigments are divided into organic and inorganic types. The characteristics each possessed in the past can be used to distinguish their types. For example, organic pigments are usually transparent. However, modern manufacturing technology can provide various properties without relying on their chemical characteristics as in the past, such as the production of highly opaque organic pigments we can now achieve. Inorganic pigments, although natural products, still require modification for pigment production. All white pigments are inorganic and widely used in color matching. Organic pigments appeared relatively late. Although natural dyes were mixed with inorganic substances (such as red) in the Middle Ages for artistic coloring (e.g., deep madder and carmine), the true organic pigments did not appear until the early 20th century. They are divided into two types: vegetable pigments and animal pigments.

1. Color: A color pigment is a pigment that selectively absorbs and scatters visible light, capable of presenting colors such as yellow, red, blue, green, etc., under natural light conditions.

3. Coverage: The ability of the film-forming substance to cover the color of the base material. Commonly expressed as the grams of pigment in a color paint that covers 1 square meter.

5. Weather Resistance: The ability of the paint to maintain its original properties under certain natural or artificial climatic conditions. Generally expressed in a five-grade system, with five being the best.

7. Oil Absorption: Refers to the number of grams of refined linseed oil required to form a uniform mass with 100 grams of pigment. A lower oil absorption is preferable. The oil absorption is related to the specific surface area and structure of the pigment particles.
