Difference Between Galvanized Wire and Stainless Steel Wire
2024-07-30
Galvanized wire is further categorized into hot-dipped galvanized wire and cold-dipped galvanized wire (electro galvanized wire). The difference lies in:
Galvanized Steel Wire: This product is made from carbon structural steel, processed through drawing and hot galvanizing. It is used in the manufacturing of metal wire mesh, highway guardrails, and construction projects. It features thick coating, strong corrosion resistance, and a secure coating. We also offer various specifications of galvanized wire in accordance with industry standards, catering to special customer requirements.
Hot-dip galvanizing involves dipping the steel into molten zinc at high temperatures. It is a quick production process with a thick but uneven coating, typically allowing a market-standard thickness of 45 micrometers, extending up to over 300 micrometers. The color is darker, consumes more zinc metal, forms an infiltration layer with the base metal, and boasts excellent corrosion resistance. Under outdoor conditions, hot-dip galvanized coatings can last for decades. The coating is generally thick, around 30-60 micrometers, and offers high corrosion protection. It is suitable for long-term rust prevention on "coarse" steel components used outdoors, such as highway fences, power towers, and large-sized fasteners. Compared to electroplating, hot-dip galvanizing has a higher production cost but is less environmentally impactful.
Cold galvanized wire: A metallic composite material made by processing low-carbon steel core wire through the process of drawing and electroplating zinc, primarily used in the manufacturing of metal wire mesh, highway guardrails, and construction projects.
Cold galvanizing (electroplating zinc) involves gradually applying zinc to the metal surface through the unidirectional flow of electricity in an electroplating bath. It is a slower production process, resulting in a uniform coating with a relatively thin thickness, typically 3-15 micrometers, and a bright appearance. However, it tends to rust after a few months. Compared to hot galvanizing, electroplating zinc has a lower production cost.
