The Difference Between Hot-Rolled and Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel Sheets

1. The cold rolled stainless steel sheets are processed by cold rolling, with a non-oxidized surface and high quality. The hot rolled stainless steel sheets are processed by hot rolling, featuring an oxidized surface and a thickness tolerance.

2. Hot-rolled stainless steel sheets have poor toughness and surface flatness, with lower prices, whereas cold-rolled stainless steel sheets offer good elongation and toughness, but at a higher cost.

3. Rolling is divided into cold rolling and hot rolling, differentiated by the recrystallization temperature. Cold rolling is generally used for producing strip materials, characterized by higher rolling speeds; hot rolling temperatures are similar to forging temperatures.

4. The surface of uncoated stainless steel hot rolled sheets is black-brown, while the surface of uncoated cold rolled stainless steel sheets is gray. After electroplating, the smoothness of the surface can be distinguished; the cold rolled sheets have a higher smoothness than the hot rolled sheets.
