How to wire a 220v electric heating cable

Whether it's for 220V or other voltage, the wiring method for electric heating tape is basically the same. Users simply need to install according to the installation manual. However, it is crucial not to install or drag or step on the electric heating tape arbitrarily during the installation process, as this can easily cause the electric heating tape to malfunction and affect its use.

Wiring steps for a 220V electric heating cable:

Preparation Phase

1. Select Location: Place the electric tracing tape tightly against the pipeline equipment, either laying it flat or wrapping it around the exterior of the pipeline. Ensure the electric tracing tape is in close contact with the pipeline or equipment to enhance heat transfer efficiency.

2. Fixed electric heat tracing: Use pressure-sensitive tape or aluminum foil tape to secure the electric heat tracing onto the equipment. Aluminum foil tape not only secures the heat tracing but also increases the heating area, enhancing heat transfer efficiency.

Step 2: Contact Process

Remove Outer Sheath: Peel off the outer sheath of the electric heating tape to expose the main cable.

Insert into junction box: Thread the stripped electric heat trace into the bottom opening of the power junction box, while simultaneously threading the power cable into the junction box as well.

3. Power Connection: In the junction box, securely fasten the main wire and power cable of the electric heating tape to the terminal connectors, ensuring a firm connection without any loose parts.

Branch and Tail End Processing

1. Branch Handling: In the event of a branch in the pipeline, a two-way or three-way junction box should be used for connection. During the connection, it is equally important to ensure good sealing to prevent moisture and humidity from entering.

2. Terminal Sealing: Remove the outer sheath and shielding layer of the electric tracing heater at the end, and make diagonal cuts on the wire core. Then, insert the processed end into the terminal. Note: Do not connect the two wire cores at the terminal to prevent short circuits.

Section 4: Thermostat Wiring (if applicable)

If the electric heating trace system includes a thermostat, wiring for the thermostat is also required. Specific steps are as follows:

1. Open the thermostat box cover: unscrew the connector, and pass the incoming and outgoing cable through the connector, clamp, and rubber seal into the wiring chamber.

In a single-phase system with a working voltage of 220V, connect one core wire from the incoming and outgoing lines to the "T1" and "T2" terminals, respectively. The remaining core wire from the incoming and outgoing lines is connected to the "short-circuit" terminal. Then, tighten the connector sleeve and secure the terminal cover screws.

3. Adjust Temperature: Open the temperature control box lid, align the medium process temperature number on the dial with the red small reference point on the core tape, and then tighten the box lid screw.

Five: Cautionary Notes

Safety Operations: Pay attention to safe operation during installation and use to prevent accidents such as electric shock.

2. Waterproof and Moisture-Proof: The junction box and end should be properly sealed to prevent moisture and dampness from entering, which could affect the performance of the electric heat tracing system.

Regular Inspections: Conduct regular checks and maintenance on the electric tracing heating system to ensure its proper operation.

4. Use dedicated connectors: The ends of the heat shrinkable sleeve should not be twisted together; twisting is strictly prohibited. When wiring, use a dedicated intermediate connector to ensure high-temperature resistance and a secure connection.

5. Proper Arrangement: The junction box should be properly arranged for easy connection and maintenance of the electric tracing heating.
