Lohansong Growth Habits: Lohansong thrives in warm, moist, and fertile sandy loam, and can also grow in coastal plains. It is not tolerant of extreme cold, thus in North China, it can only be grown in pots. It has a long lifespan. It prefers ample sunlight and is somewhat shade-tolerant. It requires a mild and humid climate, free from intense summer heat and humidity, as well as severe winter frost. Light frost can cause its young leaves and autumn shoots to turn completely yellow. Therefore, except for the subtropical regions in South and Southwest China, it is not tolerant of extreme cold, and can only be grown in pots in North China. It demands well-drained, loamy, fertile, and slightly acidic soil, as the leaves will yellow and growth will slow down in alkaline soil. It can live for hundreds, even over a thousand years.

Lohasun Growth Environment:

Larix potaninii thrives in warm and humid climates with an optimal growth temperature of 15-28°C. It has weak cold resistance but strong shade tolerance. Prefers well-drained, moist sandy loam with strong adaptability to soil conditions, able to survive in saline-alkaline soils as well.

Lohassia planting methods:

1. Seed Collection: Around August to October, remove the seeds from the罗汉松 and store them in a dry place. A good method is to seal them tightly and place them in the refrigerator.

2. Germination: Soak the seeds in warm water before planting to germinate, usually for about 4 days to ensure they absorb enough moisture. After germination, the seedling rate of the seeds is typically higher.

3. Planting: Sow germinated seeds into the soil, cover them with soil, then add a layer of straw for moisture retention. Water it once a day, and after about a week, uncover the straw, provide partial shade, and the seeds will germinate in 40 days.

Propagation Method: Sowing

1. After harvesting the seeds of the Chinese fir, store them in a dry and well-ventilated area. Ideal conditions include minimal direct sunlight, as extreme heat or humidity can affect seed preservation. Large temperature fluctuations can cause the seeds to germinate prematurely. A good method for storing Chinese fir seeds is to seal them and keep them in the refrigerator, ensuring they neither germinate early nor lose moisture.

2. Soaking: Before sowing, soak the Lohansong seeds for about 4 days to ensure they absorb enough moisture. Use previously boiled water at room temperature for soaking to increase germination rates. Sow the seeds in rows with a spacing of 20cm between rows and 10cm between plants. The depth of covering the seeds should be just enough to cover them. Then, cover them with straw to maintain moisture. Spray water on the seeds once a day after sowing. Remove the straw cover after 8-9 days, and provide sun protection and shade; do not expose them to direct sunlight.

3 Sowing: The seeds of Podocarpus macrophyllus will germinate around 40 days after sowing. It is important to pay attention to the spacing between seedlings. If there are too many seedlings in one area, transplant them with the soil intact to the empty spots. Be careful not to water the new seedlings too much to ensure their survival rate. When the seedlings grow to about 6 leaves, you can water them with a slight dilution of biogas water. It is recommended not to use chemical fertilizer. Since the seedlings grow slowly, they should be transplanted after 1 year, with a spacing of 20 cm between rows and plants.20cm pots or transplanted to 15cm pots, 1 plant per bag. Transplant again after one year, with a spacing of 1x1m between rows. After 3 years of seedling cultivation, the seedlings can reach 1-1.3m in height and 1m² in canopy spread, forming a pyramid-shaped crown, suitable for landscaping or further cultivation into larger plants.
