Compared to other tree species, the planting of Zelkova is relatively simple, but it faces very serious pest and disease issues during growth. Common pests and diseases of Zelkova include woodlice, red spiders, diseases, soot blight, and leaf spot. Woodlice can be treated with a 1000-1500 times diluted spray, red spiders with a 1000 times emulsifiable concentrate spray, diseases with a 2000 times powder rust control emulsion spray, and soot blight with a 500 times carbendazim spray, etc.

Pine trees thrive along roadsides, slopes, and forest edges at elevations of 100-1,500 meters. They prefer sunlight, tolerate some shade, and are hardy. Suitable for warm, humid climates, they flourish in fertile, flat areas. They are not particular about soil type and have some drought resistance. They also tolerate waterlogged and barren soils, with a strong adaptability.

Pine trees can be used as avenue trees, exhibiting strong resistance to toxic gases like sulfur dioxide; their bark is a source for papermaking and artificial cotton; the fruits can be pressed for oil as lubricant; the wood is hard, suitable for industrial use; the roots, bark, and leaves have medicinal properties for reducing swelling and pain, treating heat, and external applications for treating burns and scalds; the leaves can be made into folk pesticides, effective against red spiders.

Distributed in Shandong (Qingdao, Laoshan), Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Taiwan in China. Also present in Vietnam and Laos.
