What is the Japan MIC Certification?
In compliance with Japan's Wireless Regulations, radio equipment must undergo model approval (i.e., technical regulation conformity certification). This is known as the TELEC certification, which is mandatory. The certification body is the MIC, recognized as a registered certification body within the scope of radio equipment. TELEC (Telecom Engineering Center) is the primary registered certification body for radio equipment conformity certification in Japan. Therefore, Japanese customers also refer to TELEC certification as MIC certification. Essentially, any product with wireless functionality must obtain TELEC certification to be exported to Japan. Examples include products with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G, 4G voice calls, GPS, and other functions, all of which require TELEC (MIC) certification.
MIC Certification Standards:
The technical standards for certification can be found in the Radio Equipment Classification and Technical Standards listed in the Technical Regulation Compliance Certification System. It is noteworthy that in cases where these technical standards differ from the technical requirements of the "Radio Regulations" (Radio Regulatory Commission Rules No. 18), the "Radio Regulations" shall govern.
How to obtain MIC certification?
1. Provide product specifications
2. Product Quotation: Pricing based on product specifications and provided manuals.
3. Contract Signing: Upon agreement on the price, both parties will sign the contract and send samples, while preparing product materials and scheduled hardware and software.
4. Test Prototype: Upon receiving the samples, we begin testing the prototypes. Any non-conforming products will require the applicant to make corrections.
5. Certificate Issuance: Upon successful product testing, a corresponding test report will be issued and submitted to the Japanese certification authority for certification.
6. Certificate Delivery: Send an electronic copy and mail the physical certificate to the client.
What documents are required to apply for MIC certification?
1. Block Diagram
2. Bill of Materials (BOM)
3. Product Images (Photos)
4. Product Instructions (User Manual)
5. Circuit Diagram
6. Key Component PCB Placement
7. Front and back PCB board diagram
The above information is accepted in English or Japanese only, not in any other type of text. Additionally, when submitting, please note the number of models; an excessive number may require product differentiation testing or incurring model review fees. Furthermore, according to the Japanese Radio Law certification requirements, manufacturers are obligated to retain certification documents for 10 years.
Four: What is the cost of the MIC certification, and how long does it take to issue the certificate?
TELEC certification costs are related to the extent of a product's wireless functions. A product with only Bluetooth functionality will differ in price from one with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 2G/3G/4G calling capabilities. Therefore, the exact certification fee can only be determined after the supplier provides a detailed product specification sheet. The approximate cost is generally around 1.5W to 3W.
