The three-phase asynchronous motor of the waste paper baling machine can be started in two ways: direct start and reduced voltage start. Direct start is a simple, reliable, and economical method, but the starting current of the motor is 4/7 times the rated current.
Excessive starting current can lead to voltage drops in the power grid, directly affecting the normal operation of other motors and electrical equipment on the same grid. On the other hand, frequent motor startups can cause significant overheating, accelerate wire aging, and shorten the motor's lifespan. Only small capacity motors are permitted to be started directly. Larger squirrel-cage induction motors, due to their higher starting current, generally use reduced voltage starting methods. Reduced voltage starting involves lowering the voltage with the starting equipment and applying it to the stator winding for the startup. Once the motor starts and runs, the voltage is then restored to the rated value for normal operation. As the current decreases with the voltage reduction, reduced voltage starting effectively reduces the starting current.
