Pure iron production for ultra-low carbon steel used in packaging materials or the automotive industry employs the RH or vacuum degassing (VTD) process. Based on the physical descriptions of different reaction points for each type of reactor, the Industrial Operation Research Center (IORC: former IRSID) developed a decarburization kinetics model. In the past few years, these models have been extensively used for adjusting operating conditions during the degassing process.
