WDZB1 Flame Retardant Power Cable Product Introduction

WDZB1 flame-retardant cable features a B1 flame-retardant burning performance grade. The cable uses magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, and other metallic aqueous substances instead of traditional fillers. This allows the cable to release crystalline water during combustion, lowering the cable's flame temperature and preventing the sustained burning heat. This structural design not only ensures a low flame spread height but also effectively controls the total smoke output and combustion speed. The B1 flame-retardant burning performance grade cable is an energy-saving, flame-retardant, and environmentally friendly product, primarily suitable for locations with a rated voltage of 35kV or less and high flame-retardant burning performance grades, such as subways, airports, high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, hotels, and transportation hubs.

2. Product Description

Design considerations for fire prevention in China's construction projects include the use of B1-rated flame-retardant cables in densely populated areas and locations requiring special protection. This choice ensures more scientific and rational fire safety requirements and minimizes potential fire hazards. The use of 81-grade flame-retardant cables is crucial for building fire safety.
B1 flame-retardant cable performance grade utilizes magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, and other metal hydrates as substitutes for traditional fillers. This design releases crystalline water during combustion, reducing the cable's flame temperature and preventing the sustained heat from continuous burning. The structural design not only ensures a low flame spread height but also effectively controls the total smoke production and combustion speed. The B1 flame-retardant cable performance grade is an energy-saving, flame-retardant, and environmentally friendly product, primarily suitable for areas with high population density and stringent flame-retardant requirements, such as subways, airports, high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, hotels, and transportation hubs, among others.

3.6 The cable flame performance grade technical specifications are B1 level combustion, which mainly evaluates:
1. Flame spread FS ≤ 1.5m, the carbonization distance measured on the surface of the cable bundle by the flame, simulating the extent of cable combustion and spread after a fire occurs.
2. Peak Heat Release Rate (HRR) of 30kW, measured under specified conditions, indicates the amount of heat released by the material in a unit of time upon combustion, reflecting the danger of flame spread along cables and the potential impact on adjacent areas.
3. Total Heat Release (THR) within 12005, measured as the integral value of the heat release rate over the specified time of 12005, and the total heat released within the 12005 fire exposure.
4. The Flammability Growth Rate Index (FIGRA) ≤ 150W/5, which measures the ratio of the maximum value of the heat release rate to the corresponding time during combustion, is used for the classification of combustion performance.
5. Peak Smoking Rate (SPR) Peak ≤ 0.25 m²/5, measures the production volume of smoke within a unit of time.
6. Total smoke generation within 12005 is TSP1200≤50m2, measure the smoke generation rate and total smoke volume within the specified time frame of 12005.
7. Smoke Density (Low Light Transmission) It260%, measures low light transmission, demonstrating visibility in the ignition area and the danger posed by smoke to personal safety through smoke density testing.
8. The vertical spread is intense with a maximum height of H ≤ 425mm; the distance between the starting points on the carbonized section of the single cable surface where the measured flame originates from above and below.

4. Flame Retardancy Mechanism

B1-rated flame-retardant cables differ from standard flame-retardant cable designs by replacing traditional polypropylene tear-resistant ropes or glass fiber filling materials with inorganic mineral materials containing metallic hydroxides like Al(OH)3 and Mg(OH)3. These hydroxides are non-toxic, halogen-free, and bromine-free, filling the space between the cable insulation and jacket. Upon exposure to fire, as the cable temperature rises, they decompose into metal oxides and water, reducing the surface temperature and preventing the jacket material from igniting. The combustion of Al(OH)3, Mg(OH)3, and similar compounds forms a hard shell around the cable core, isolating external oxygen from the internal insulation, creating a barrier against heat and oxygen. This results in a higher flame-retardant and fire-resistant capability for B1-rated cables.

Due to the flame-retardant combustion performance of B1-grade cables, which utilize flame-retardant material formulations and structural designs, they can "cool down" and "insulate" during testing. This makes the non-metallic capacity of bundled flame-retardant cables no longer a "golden monkey" for designers. Even when conducting flame-retardant tests on cables with a non-metallic material content exceeding 14L per meter of A-grade samples, the carbonization height remains significantly below the national standard of 2.5 meters. Additionally, with the combustion of the cable greatly hindered, the outer sheath experiences minimal burn-off, and the core is largely protected from combustion due to the insulating layer, resulting in very low levels of heat and smoke emission. This allows us to easily pass the stringent GB31247-2014 B1-grade test.

Using B1-rated flame-retardant cables effectively prevents the combustion reaction of flammable materials inside the cables while significantly reducing the non-metal content of the jacket materials. Compared to traditional flame-retardant cables, employing B1-rated flame-retardant cables in densely laid-out cable areas in large-scale projects offers better cost-effectiveness and is a new product worth promoting.
