In contrast, silicon carbide retains its bending strength at a high level of 500 to 600 MPa up to 1400 degrees Celsius, allowing for operation at temperatures as high as 1600 to 1700 degrees Celsius.


Silicon Carbide Composite Materials


SiC-CMC composite materials are widely used in the aerospace field for high-temperature thermal structures due to their high tensile strength, excellent toughness, and superior oxidation resistance. The preparation process of SiC-CMC involves fiber预制forming, high-temperature treatment, intermediate phase coating, matrix densification, and post-processing. High-strength carbon fibers have high strength and good toughness, and the preforms made from them possess excellent mechanical properties.


The mesophase coating (also known as interfacial technology) is a key technology in the preparation process. Methods for preparing mesophase coatings include Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), Gel-Sol Method (Sol-gel), and Polymer Infiltration and Pyrolysis (PLP). The CVI and PIP methods are suitable for preparing silicon carbide-based composites.


The materials for interface coatings include pyrolytic carbon, boron nitride, and boron carbide, with boron carbide gaining increasing attention as an antioxidant interface coating. SiC-CMC, commonly used under oxidizing conditions for extended periods, requires antioxidant treatment, which involves depositing a layer of dense silicon carbide approximately 100μm thick on the product surface via CVD, enhancing its high-temperature antioxidant properties.
