Manufacturing Process of Steel Grating
2024-12-04
Preparing raw materials
The company prepares flat steel to meet customer requirements, with commonly used sizes including heights of 25mm, 30mm, 32mm, 40mm, and 50mm. Standard thicknesses include 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm, while the usual twisted steel is 6mm x 6mm.
2. Steel Grating Welding
The welding of steel grating panels is a mechanical pressure welding process. This involves the use of a high-pressure resistance welding machine, where a robotic arm automatically places the crossbars across evenly spaced flat steel bars. The crossbars are then firmly welded into the flat steel using strong electric welding power and hydraulic pressure, resulting in a steel grating with secure weld points, stability, and high strength. However, customizing steel grating panels with irregular shapes generates a significant amount of waste and is expensive.
Hand-welding requires pre-punching holes in flat steel, followed by inserting the crossbar into the holes for electric welding. It is cost-effective and can be customized even for small quantities.
3. Cutting
According to the dimensions specified in the steel grating drawings, the entire steel grating must be mechanically cut after welding. (Introduction to High-Efficiency Energy-Saving Steel Grating Shears) During cutting, strict control is maintained over dimensional tolerances. After cutting, professional quality inspectors conduct random checks on the cut steel gratings, and any substandard ones are re-cut.
4. End Plate (Flange) Welding
The flat steel material models in the end plates and steel grating plates are the same and are welded using manual welding methods. The welding process involves cleaning the oil and dirt from the surface of the steel grating plates before welding, with single-sided corner welds being used. Each flat steel on the steel grating plate must be welded to the end plate. After welding, the surface is slagged and polished smooth.
5. Hot-Dip Galvanized
Hot-dip galvanizing is an essential process for steel grating. Before galvanizing, it is necessary to choose sandblasting or shot blasting to remove surface rust. Ensure the surface is free of oil, rust, and other impurities. The average zinc layer weight after galvanizing should not be less than 460g/sq. m., and the quality should comply with GB/T13912 standards.
6. Packaging and Transportation
After the aforementioned process, the manufacturing of the steel grating is essentially complete. Next, the site management is contacted, and they provide the material list. The factory then packages, loads onto trucks, and transports the pre-manufactured steel grating based on the specifications, quantities, and delivery dates listed in the material list. Generally, the steel grating is packaged in bundles of 25 pieces per bundle. Each bundle weighs approximately around 2 tons. The bundled grating is loaded onto trucks using forklifts.
