15-5PH is a martensitic, precipitation-hardened, chrome-nickel-copper stainless steel with excellent surface smoothness and dimensional stability. It boasts good machinability, excellent mechanical properties, and resistance to general corrosive environments. This steel grade has good strength, comparable toughness and ductility, hardness, and corrosion resistance to 304 stainless steel. 15-5PH can achieve various properties through heat treatment.

The mechanical properties of precipitation-hardening stainless steel are highly related to the heat treatment state. The conventional heat treatment process for 15-5PH stainless steel material is solution treatment plus aging, which improves strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance by adjusting the microstructure and controlling the precipitated phases. 15-5PH can be welded in any method in the solution, aging, or overaging states without preheating. If the weld strength is required to be close to the strength of the steel after aging hardening, the weld must be re-solution treated and aged after welding. The steel is also suitable for brazing, with the brazing temperature being the same as the solution treatment temperature.
