Fiberglass Storage Tank

Fiberglass storage tank service life
The lifespan of a glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) storage tank is closely related not only to its manufacturing process (the raw materials like resins and glass fibers used, the winding molding method, and manufacturing experience) but also to its installation and the规范性 use.
The normal lifespan of a fiberglass storage tank should be between 9 to 16 years. A fiberglass storage tank is a non-metallic composite tank made by combining resin and glass fiber in a winding process. The longevity of a fiberglass storage tank is greatly related to its installation foundation and standardized operation.
Due to the monolithic winding construction of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) storage tanks, they have strong resistance to positive pressure but relatively weak resistance to negative pressure, especially in tanks over 2000mm in diameter. Many quality issues with steel tanks are due to the creation of negative pressure inside the GRP tank during the pumping process, often caused by clogged vent holes. This internal suction damage can occur when the vent holes are blocked or not kept open, or when the tank's internal pressure is not maintained at a constant level. Therefore, keeping the vent holes open or maintaining atmospheric pressure inside the steel tank is crucial for the longevity of the GRP storage tank.
That concludes the introduction to the service life of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) storage tanks. After some time in use, it is not advisable to frequently move GRP storage tanks, as this can cause damage to the structural layer's axial stress. This can reduce the strength of the tank body and impact the service life of the GRP storage tank.
