The application of asphalt pavement tape in the maintenance of asphalt concrete road surfaces reflects the principle of the maintenance policy, "prevention first, combination of prevention and control." It plays a role in extending the service life of asphalt concrete road surfaces and preventing early and intermediate stage damage. When the cracks in asphalt concrete road surfaces are relatively minor, the use of asphalt pavement tape is an effective method that is cost-efficient, quick, and yields good results. It is a scientific maintenance technique that effectively extends the service life of road surfaces. With the continuous promotion and application of asphalt pavement tape for crack treatment, it will further achieve favorable economic and social benefits.
Positioning
Identify pavement cracks, and directly use asphalt pavement crack sealing tape for cracks narrower than 4mm. For severe cracks wider than 4mm, first apply asphalt grouting and then use the asphalt pavement crack sealing tape for effective treatment.
Sweeping
Based on the on-site conditions, clean and dry the cracks (joints) on the asphalt road using a brush and a hairdryer. Ensure that both the road cracks and the area within 500px on both sides are thoroughly cleaned. Failure to do so may affect the adhesive performance of the asphalt road crack sealing tape. The crack (joint) surface must be smooth, without any protrusions, depressions, loose materials, gravel, oil stains, grease, or other dirt. Any pits or holes must be filled.
Seam Sealing
Cut a strip of asphalt pavement tape slightly longer than the crack length. Remove the release paper from the back of the asphalt pavement tape, place the tape with the polypropylene fabric face up, and press the tape and the sides of the crack with your fingers. Once the tape is slightly sticky, start adhering it from one end until the entire crack is covered. Pay attention to keeping the crack in the center of the asphalt pavement tape and avoid trapping air between the tape and the pavement to form bubbles. For irregular cracks, cut the asphalt pavement tape and follow the crack's direction to apply. At the joints of the asphalt pavement tape, ensure they are tightly aligned.
Crush
After applying asphalt road crack sealing tape to the pavement cracks, use an iron roller to firmly roll the tape, pressing it flat against the ground to ensure the tape becomes one with the pavement. There should be no bubbles or wrinkles to guarantee a full and proper bond between the asphalt road crack sealing tape and the pavement.
Approval Granted
Once the asphalt pavement crack tape is laid and compacted, ensure it is fully bonded to the road surface before allowing traffic to proceed.
