Recently, our province has experienced frequent alternation between cold and warm air, leading to several days of overcast and rainy weather. This has had varying degrees of impact on the production of vegetables in greenhouses. Below is an introduction to vegetable management techniques following the severe weather event:

When transitioning from overcast, rainy, or snowy weather to clear skies, it's crucial for plants to gradually acclimate to light and temperature increases. As the sun emerges, uncover the greenhouse, and farmers should remain vigilant, monitoring plant changes. After light exposure, the temperature inside the greenhouse rises rapidly, causing increased transpiration. With lower ground temperatures and weaker root absorption, there's a risk of imbalance between absorption and transpiration, leading to wilting leaves. In severe cases, plants may die due to physiological drought. Before wilting occurs, promptly cover the greenhouse again, or alternate between covering and uncovering, for several days until the plants grow normally. Then, adjust the covering based on the temperature. These methods are known as "re-covering" and "covering flowers."

For vegetables affected by cold damage, before uncovering the shade net on sunny days, you can first spray clear water on the leaves to allow for a gradual temperature rise. For plants that have shown severe withering and stopped growing after consecutive days of overcast, rainy, or snowy weather, it is necessary to adjust the nutrition of the plants. Spraying exogenous plant hormones can promote branching. To restore the physiological function of greenhouse and plastic-covered vegetables, it is advisable to use a compound fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium for cucurbits and solanaceous vegetables. Leafy vegetables should be sprayed with a 1% to 2% urea water solution, while root and stem vegetables can be sprayed with a 0.3% solution.

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate and a 1% potassium sulfate aqueous solution. It should be noted that spraying should not be done during rainy, snowy, or cloudy weather to avoid increased humidity inside the greenhouse, which may lead to disease outbreaks.

Following the clearing of weather in soil management, cultivate and loosen the soil in areas with higher humidity to enhance aeration, raise ground temperature, and promote new root growth. If the roots have been chilled, after loosening the soil to warm and slow down root activity, fertilize with water once, but use underground water, not surface cool water, and avoid excessive watering. After watering, promptly cultivate and loosen the soil. When fertilizing, use more biological fertilizers to revitalize the soil, increase soil organic matter, make the soil looser and more breathable, and promote root development.
