A pagoda boat is a decorated, classical, and luxurious pleasure boat, a replica of ancient Chinese-style vessels that embody the essence of "Chinese style." It combines classical garden architecture, reflecting the classical art of Chinese civilization. Originated from Tang Dynasty, Liu Xiying's "Xianghe GeCi · Jiangnan Qu Ba Shou" ("Painted Boat in the Mist, Distant Sun at Qingyang's Edge"). It is said that Emperor Qianlong traveled down the Yangtze River six times in such a boat.

The pagoda boat is luxurious yet classical, with its architecture modeled after ancient Chinese buildings featuring pavilions, terraces, and towers, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and stringent requirements.

The traditional painting boat features soaring eaves and delicately crafted corner pavilions that gradually take shape, prominently standing at the bow. Beauty rests on the railing, coiled dragon columns, colorful paintings... The bas-relief coiled dragons and auspicious clouds on the dragon columns are layered one over the other, each layer perfectly arranged. The intricate carvings are so fine that every scale on the dragon can be counted individually. These ancient royal emblematic elements are fully displayed on the painting boat. Besides the carvings and ornate windows, the boat also boasts a beautifully arched, towering stern. The boat is not large, measuring about 10 meters in length and 3.2 meters in width, yet it is a true piece of art. The carved balustrades at the stern echo the carvings in the cabin and at the bow, while the bas-relief auspicious clouds around the boat's body add a sense of wealth and elegance.

The entire shipbuilding process is mainly divided into nine sections:

1. Selection and preparation of materials. For钉木船 (钉木 boats), natural aged cedar is chosen due to its sturdy and flexible wood texture. Boats made from this material have shallow draft, high buoyancy, and are capable of carrying heavy loads. They are also light, agile, and quite durable.

2. Material shortages and blends. The sizes of the shortages and blends depend on the hull structure. Generally, the hull is composed of three sections: the bow, midsection, and stern, made up of the keel, sides, and beams. Vessels vary in size, and the dimensions of the shortages are quite specific.

3. Sawn boards. After the logs are cut into pieces, they become sawn boards. In the past, without electric saws, everything relied on manual sawing. First, use a marking line and a rafter to mark the lines according to the actual required thickness, then set up the logs and pull the saw to saw the boards.

4. Sheet cutting. After breaking the board, the sawn surface must be sanded smooth with coarse and fine shaves. Then, the finished sheet materials are produced according to the actual required length, width, thickness, and angle.

5. Plywood assembly. When assembling, ensure the钉眼 holes are pre-drilled. In the past, without electric drills, everything was done manually, using a hand drill. After pre-drilled plywood pieces are secured with mixed nails (large head, small tail nails), they are joined to form the ship's side, bottom, and bulkhead panels, making the ship ready for launch.

6. Ship Assembly. The assembly process typically involves first connecting the middle hull bottom plate with the forward and aft bulkhead plates. Then, using tools such as hemp rope, clamps, pull clips, ferrules, runners, and pointed stops, the bow and stern are tightened, connected to the front and rear, and wave plates, with "climbing head nails" and "flat head nails" securing the wood, and various wedges reinforcing the joints to make them unbreakable.

7. Beating and Filling. The process of beating and filling is combined into five steps: Rolling the ash; Filling the ash; Twisting the ash, beating the hemp; Sealing the mouth.

8. Oil Tankers. Oil tanker hull corrosion prevention and longevity are primarily achieved through three processes: first, applying a base oil; second, applying a topcoat; third, applying a weatherproofing oil.

9. Bottoming Out. After a period, the new ship's oil has settled well, and it can be launched into the water. The launch of a new ship is no less significant than the "raising of the beam" in house construction. The shipbuilders' necks are adorned with red and green, and they also insert golden flowers. They engrave auspicious characters on the waveboards, carve dragon eyes, light incense paper, candles, and burn incense, as well as set off firecrackers to worship the goddess.

Advantages of Wooden Boats
Features: Advanced technology, scientific structure, massive size, strong stability
Performance:

1. Watertight compartment structure, enhanced wind and wave resistance safety

2. Mortise and tenon joints with putty filling technique, extending wood material, capable of constructing large ships

3. The ship's side is fitted with a wave-deflecting board, resembling a heron's wing, which can prevent rolling and also shield against ocean waves, ensuring the safety of personnel and goods on deck.

4. Four long thick pieces of wood are installed on the ship's sides, securely fastened with long nails to both sides, known as "big dowels." The big dowels not only prevent external impact but also reinforce the ship's own stability.
