Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) utilizes ceramic regenerative beds to store heat generated during the decomposition of organic off-gases, and then uses the stored thermal energy from the ceramic regenerative beds to preheat and decompose untreated organic off-gases, achieving high thermal efficiency. The oxidation temperature typically ranges from 800°C to 850°C, with a maximum of up to 1100°C. The regenerative thermal oxidizer is mainly used in scenarios where the concentration of organic off-gases is low but the volume is high, and it is also very effective when dealing with off-gases containing corrosive substances, toxic materials to catalysts, and when oxidizing certain odorous gases at higher temperatures.
Three-bedroom RTO incineration working principle
Organic waste gases are drawn into the heat storage chamber 1 by an induced draft fan, where they absorb heat and increase in temperature. After heating, they enter the combustion chamber for further heating, continuously increasing the temperature until the organic components are completely decomposed into CO2 and H2O. Due to the heat recovered from the heat storage body during the heating process, fuel consumption is minimized. The treated waste gases leave the combustion chamber, enter the heat storage chamber 2 to release heat, and are then emitted. The heat storage body in chamber 2 absorbs heat and is used to heat the new low-temperature waste gases introduced in the next cycle.
At the same time, some purified gas is introduced to sweep Chamber 3 to prepare for the next heat exchange cycle. After the process is completed, switch the inlet and outlet valves; the gas enters from Chamber 2 and exits from Chamber 3, while Chamber 1 is swept. In the subsequent cycle, the flow is reversed, with gas entering from Chamber 3, exiting from Chamber 1, and Chamber 2 being swept. This alternating process continues. Additionally, to enhance the utilization of thermal energy, a heat exchanger can be installed after the RTO incinerator to improve the recovery of waste heat.

Heat Storage Body
The heat storage medium is the heat carrier in the RTO system, directly affecting the thermal efficiency of the RTO. Its main technical indicators are as follows:
(1) Heat Storage Capacity: The larger the heat storage capacity per unit volume of the heat storage body, the smaller the volume of the heat storage chamber.
(2) Heat Exchange Rate: The thermal conductivity of the material reflects the speed of heat transfer; the higher the thermal conductivity, the faster the heat transfer.
(3) Thermal shock stability: Under continuous switching between high and low temperatures, the heat storage body is prone to deformation and even cracking due to the significant temperature difference and rapid changes, which can block the airflow channel and affect the heat storage effect.
(4) Corrosion Resistance: The gas medium in contact with the heat storage material is often highly corrosive, and the corrosion resistance will affect the service life of the RTO.
2. Switch Valve
The changeover valve is a critical component for the RTO incinerator's recirculating heat exchange, and it must be switched accurately within specified timeframes. Its stability and reliability are crucial. Due to the large amount of dust particles in the exhaust gas, frequent operation of the changeover valve can cause wear, leading to issues such as loose valve seals and slow operation speeds once accumulated to a certain degree, which can affect performance.
3. Burn Tip
The primary purpose of the burner is to prevent the rapid mixing of gas and fuel, which can lead to localized high temperatures; however, it should also not mix too slowly to cause secondary combustion or incomplete combustion of the fuel. To ensure combustion of the fuel in a low-oxygen environment, factors such as the diffusion between fuel and gas, mixing with flue gases inside the furnace, and the angle and depth of the jet must be considered. These parameters should be accurately calculated at the design stage based on actual process requirements; otherwise, they will directly affect the incineration efficiency of the RTO.
