How to Choose Direct Drive and Belt Drive for Roots Blowers!

The Direct Drive Rotorax Blower connects the motor and the Rotorax blower directly via a coupling, but it does not alter the blower's speed or airflow. This connection method avoids the need for belt replacement and adjustment, enhancing mechanical efficiency. The matched motors are 4-pole and 6-pole, with the specific choice depending on the customer's required pressure and airflow of the Rotorax blower.

Belt Drive Advantages: Wide range of fan speed options, flow rates closer to application requirements.

Drawback: Belt drive requires tension, which adds additional lateral force to the fan shaft end.

Direct Drive Transmission Advantages: The wind turbine shaft experiences no lateral force, allowing for the transmission of high power.

Drawbacks: Directly coupled to the motor, limited speed options. In most cases, the fan discharge capacity is excessive, necessitating the installation of bypass piping for venting, resulting in significant energy waste.

The main shaft speed of the fan can be freely adjusted according to the motor and fan pulley ratio, allowing manufacturers to mix and match as desired. Therefore, the flow and pressure ranges of inline Roots blowers available on the market are wide, whereas direct-drive Roots blowers can only operate at a fixed speed. The fan main shaft speed is equal to the motor speed, and for the same model fan and motor grade, the flow rate can only be fixed. This is the difference in airflow!

Next, let's discuss the differences in application. In high-temperature work conditions, such as iron smelting, direct coupling is generally used. Belts are not heat-resistant and tend to slip and break. Moreover, in high-static conditions, ordinary belts cannot be used; instead, beryllium copper belts or direct coupling can be employed.

After discussing the pros and cons, it's important to note that both direct drive and belt drive have their own merits. There's no need to overly weigh the differences between the two. In general, choose a belt drive for simplicity in maintenance. In cases where a decision is difficult and there are no special requirements, consider the base size, temperature, and price when making your selection.
