Diesel generator sets are power generation equipment primarily fueled by diesel, utilizing diesel engines as the prime mover to drive generators (also known as dynamos) for electricity production, converting kinetic energy into electrical and thermal energy. The complete diesel generator set is mainly divided into three parts:
Diesel Engine
2. Generator (i.e., electrical ball).
3. Controller.
In detail, the components consist of the base, diesel engine, base fuel tank, genset (also known as an electric ball), controller (controls and protects the genset), radiator (air-cooled: fan; water-cooled: water tank), noise-proof enclosures, etc. According to different regional demands, gensets are categorized as fixed and mobile trailer types. To reduce noise levels and minimize disruption to work and living, designers have developed gensets with noise-proof enclosures. These enclosures are metallic boxes externally fitted with sound-absorbing materials to shield the genset. Doors are installed on the sides for easy maintenance and control access. The noise-proof enclosures not only decrease the noise emitted by the genset but also allow for outdoor placement, acting like a shed that protects against sun and rain, eliminating the hassle of finding a space for a genset room. Diesel gensets are divided into standard gensets and backup gensets, with power ratings corresponding to standard and backup power. The standard power rating of each genset is typically 80% of the backup power rating. Depending on the need, use the national grid for regular power and the backup diesel genset during power outages. For extended runtime requirements, opt for the standard diesel genset, which with regular maintenance can operate for over 300 days a year. The relationship between standard and backup power ratings is as follows: if a user needs a 100KW diesel genset, the standard power rating for the backup 100KW genset would be 100KW * 80% = 80KW. This means the standard power rating for a 100KW backup genset is 80KW. If a noise-proof enclosure is added to the diesel genset, the power rating will typically decrease by about 10%. Therefore, when purchasing a diesel genset, the user should consider the power rating reduction due to the noise-proof enclosure.
