How Diesel Generator Sets Are Categorized
Diesel generator sets are a type of self-powered power supply for off-grid applications, serving as an independent power generation unit. They operate by utilizing internal combustion engines to drive synchronous AC generators for electricity production. Currently, diesel generator sets are widely used across various industries. As a backup power source for production, they are highly favored by numerous manufacturing enterprises. We can categorize diesel generator sets into the following types:
Initially, diesel generator sets can be categorized based on their automation features into basic models, automatic start-up models, and micro-computer automatic control diesel generator sets.
Basic Diesel Generator Set
This type of diesel generator set is quite common, consisting of a diesel engine, water tank, muffler, synchronous AC generator, control box, coupling, and chassis. It is typically used as either a primary or backup power source.
2. Self-starting diesel generator set
This type of diesel generator set is an upgraded version with an added fully automatic control system. It features automated switching capabilities, such as automatic startup, automatic power switch toggling, automatic power supply, and automatic shutdown during sudden power outages from the municipal grid. It also includes automatic optical and audio alarm signals when the oil pressure is too low, the engine oil temperature is too high, or the coolant temperature is excessively high. Furthermore, it can automatically stop running in an emergency to protect the generator set from overspeeding.
3. Microcomputer-Controlled Automated Diesel Generator Set
This type of diesel generator set is composed of a high-performance diesel engine, a three-phase brushless synchronous generator, an automatic fuel supply system, an automatic oil supply system, an automatic cooling water supply system, and an ATS automatic control panel. The ATS automatic control panel utilizes programmable automatic PLC control. In addition to features like automatic start-up, automatic switching, automatic operation, automatic engagement, and automatic shutdown, it is also equipped with various fault alarms and automatic protection devices.
