Preparation Before Using a Roughness Gauge

The surface roughness gauge boasts high measurement accuracy, wide measurement range, easy operation, portability, and stable performance. It is widely applicable for inspecting the processing surfaces of various metals and non-metals. This instrument is a compact, all-in-one sensor unit with handheld features, making it particularly suitable for use in production sites.


Measurement Principle:

During the measurement of workpiece surface roughness, the sensor is placed on the surface to be measured. The internal drive mechanism of the instrument moves the sensor along the surface at a constant speed. The sensor detects the roughness of the surface through an internal sharp probe, causing the probe to displace. This displacement alters the inductance of the sensor's inductive coil, generating an analog signal proportional to the surface roughness at the output of a phase-sensitive rectifier. After amplification and level conversion, the signal enters the data acquisition system. The DSP chip filters the collected data and performs parameter calculations, displaying the measurement results on a liquid crystal display, printing them, or communicating with a PC.

 

Preparation Before Use:

Before measurement, select the roughness measuring instrument probe based on the shape of the surface to be measured on the object. When changing the probe, there is a very thin tubular body inside the probe. Ensure that the two contacting parts are properly connected during assembly.

2. Adjust the surface roughness gauge according to the total height of the loading platform and the item being measured, ensuring the measuring head remains level with the surface of the item.

3. When placing the probe on the surface of the item being measured, be mindful of the placement. Be cautious to prevent the probe from falling off during measurement and getting damaged.

 

II. Measurement Work:

1. Power on the computer connected to the surface roughness meter, log in to the Windows 98 system, remove the standard sample 0.4, and note that the actual value of the standard sample is 0.375. Test the standard sample to see how much the computer's displayed value differs from the actual value of 0.375.

2. Then, modify the parameters of a notepad in the computer software (C_ smr1d_adjust1). Continue adjusting until the displayed value on the computer matches our actual sample value of 0.375.

During the measurement process, ensure the sensor and the item being measured maintain good contact. The surface roughness gauge features an indicator light on its housing. The red light indicates the instrument is in operation (measuring the surface roughness value). The yellow light signifies completion. The value displayed on the computer is the surface roughness value of the product being measured. To enhance measurement accuracy, perform multiple measurements and calculate the average. Turn off a series of measurement instruments.
