In the independent drive mechanisms of each opening and closing machine, a brake must be separately installed. During the opening and closing of the gate, the brake is a device used to regulate the descent speed, braking, and pause of the gate. Within the opening and closing mechanism, the brake absorbs the inertia of motion, allowing the machine to stop within a certain braking distance. There are various types of brakes for opening and closing machines, generally selected based on the braking torque and usage. For lower braking torque, short-stroke or long-stroke AC brakes can be chosen. For higher braking torque, long-stroke (or double short-stroke) AC brakes are used.
2. The nature and working conditions of the machinery or equipment to be applied. For example, for cranes, both the lifting and swing mechanisms must use a normally closed brake. For horizontally moving vehicles and the operating and rotating mechanisms of lifting equipment, a normally open brake is often used to control the magnitude of the dynamic torque for precise stopping.
3. Pay close attention to the tasks of the brakes. For example, the braking torque of the support item brakes must have sufficient margin, ensuring a certain safety factor. For mechanisms with high safety requirements, such as lifting mechanisms transporting molten metal or flammable, explosive items, it is mandatory to install dual brakes. Each brake must be capable of safely supporting items like ladles individually without causing them to fall. For instance, in mine hoists, in addition to installing a brake on the high-speed shaft, a brake is also set on the drum or rope wheel shaft. For heavy load descent braking (i.e., sliding friction braking), consideration must be given to heat dissipation. There must be adequate surface area to dissipate the heat generated by the potential energy of the heavy load during braking, to prevent overheating and the failure of the brakes.
4. Consider the application site. For instance, if there is ample space where the brake is to be installed, an external shoe brake can be chosen. In areas with limited space, internal shoe, belt, or disc brakes can be used. Select the appropriate model based on the performance and application of the brake in different equipment, which is essential information for us to understand.
