What is deburring:
Chipping is the process of creating grooves on the finished concrete surface, commonly done in cast-in-place structures after the casting of the slab is completed. This chipping is necessary to ensure a strong bond for the subsequent casting of the next layer of columns and walls.
To put it simply, the process involves roughening the concrete surface with a drill and then thoroughly washing it clean, primarily to enhance the bonding between the concrete and the material being poured.
Section 2: The Role of Grooving
The reason for chiseling is not only to roughen the surface, but primarily to remove the laitance from the concrete surface, ensuring a dense and firm bond at the junction of new and old concrete. To illustrate with an analogy of a bridge:
1. Piers with broken pile heads or "roughening" treatment are in place; this is to remove non-tight concrete, ensuring quality.
Roughening at the joint of the 2 columns is done to ensure a firm concrete bond, and it also serves to eliminate the seam.
The top surface of the 3-beam slab is roughened to ensure a strong bond with the laying layer, as the laying layer is relatively thin and not roughening it can easily lead to peeling.
