A DC Torque Motor is a special type of brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor. Due to the direct connection of the load to the rotor, no transmission components are required, making the torque motor a direct drive technology. The torque motor is also known as a "frameless" motor, meaning it does not have a housing, bearings, or measuring system. These components are selected by the machine manufacturer based on the required performance or purchased as a complete set.

The torque motor employs a permanent magnet brushless motor design, featuring a ring-shaped stator and a ring-shaped rotor. The stator is not made with toothed lamination but consists of smooth cylindrical laminations. The rotor is composed of multi-pole rare earth permanent magnet poles and a ring-shaped hollow shaft. This structure ensures a larger air gap and uniform magnetic resistance throughout the entire working air gap, thereby endowing the motor with the advantage of zero-slot torque.
