45MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge: Easy to operate, reliable performance


The 45MG is an advanced ultrasonic thickness gauge equipped with standard measurement features and software options. This uniquely designed instrument is compatible with all Olympus dual-element and single-element thickness probes, offering an innovative one-machine solution for a wide range of thickness measurement applications.


With just a few clicks, transform from a basic corrosion thickness gauge to a versatile precise thickness gauge. The 45MG gauge offers 5 password-protected software options, placing it among the widely used thickness gauges in the industrial field.


Echo to Echo/Through Coating (THRU-COAT):

Using the Echo-to-Echo option, the actual thickness of the metal is displayed on the instrument screen, while the coating thickness is ignored. The Penetrate Coating option measures both the metal thickness and the non-metallic coating thickness, adjusting both thicknesses according to their respective correct material sound velocities. Therefore, there is no need to remove the paint layer or coating from the material surface when measuring thickness.


Echo to echo

The thickness gauge displays the actual metal thickness without coating, by utilizing multiple bottom surface echoes.

Monocrystalline:

This option offers highly precise thickness measurement for a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, composites, glass, and ceramics. It is fully compatible with single crystal Microscan probes with frequencies ranging from 2.25 MHz to 30 MHz.

Users can utilize the single crystal software option to achieve precise thickness measurements with a resolution as high as 0.001 millimeters. Compatible with single crystal Microscan probes within the frequency range of 2.25 MHz to 30 MHz. Capable of measuring the following materials and products:

  • Most thin and thick materials

  • Plastic bottles, tubes, piping, and thin sheet materials with wall thickness as thin as 0.08 mm.

  • Metal containers with wall thickness as thin as 0.10mm, steel coil materials, machined components

  • Cylinder bore, turbine blades

  • Glass bulbs, bottles

  • Thin-walled glass fiber, rubber, ceramics, and composite materials

  • Containers with curved sections or smaller inner corner radii


Monocrystalline High Penetration:

This option is suitable for measuring thickness of thicker or more attenuative materials, such as glass fiber or cast metals. It is compatible with single crystal Microscan probes within the frequency range of 0.5 MHz to 30 MHz. This option includes the single crystal option.

Users can utilize this option to measure thicker or materials with high acoustic attenuation, such as rubber, glass fiber, castings, and composite materials, even when using a low-frequency single crystal probe (as low as 0.5 MHz). This option includes the single crystal option.

  • Most thicker materials or those with stronger acoustic attenuation.

  • Heavy metal castings

  • Thick rubber tires, tracks

  • Fiberglass boat hulls, storage tanks

  • Composite panels

  • For probes with a frequency range of 0.5 MHz to 1.0 MHz, the resolution is 0.01 mm.


Real-time A-scan with waveform adjustment feature:

Users can opt for the real-time A-scan mode, enabling direct viewing of the ultrasonic waveform (also known as A-scan) on the thickness gauge's display. This allows for verification of thickness measurement readings, manual adjustment of gain and blank settings, significantly enhancing measurement performance in challenging applications. This beneficial option includes manual gain adjustment, expanded blanking, first echo blanking, range, and delay parameters.
