Seam Inspection

Automakers utilize EdgeFORM phased array wheel probes to inspect the adhesive or bonding joints of trunk lids, hoods, and door panels for insufficient adhesion or lack of adhesive. This probe is also highly suitable for detecting composites and other smooth surfaces.

The probe's zero-degree ultrasonic beam and built-in encoder help generate clear C-scan images. If the adhesive is well bonded, the transmitted beam energy will attenuate as it passes through the adhesive layer and metal plate. If the bonding is poor, the beam will reflect back. The gates in the OmniScan flaw detector assist in identifying seams and displaying them in the C-scan. The C-scan images use different colors to represent various signal amplitudes.

Adjustable hole diameters on both the vertical and horizontal axes to accommodate various panel geometries. The horizontal range is 32mm, with the vertical range adjustable between +2.5mm and -2.5mm.
