We've compiled the following waterproof tile application principles for you:
1. Materials used ensure adhesion between the waterproof coating and the base layer. Do not force the application if the base layer surface is too rough for construction.
2. The wall waterproofing layer is selected with a more rigid waterproof coating, such as Langkaiji L-185, EZ610, etc.
3. After applying the waterproofing layer, a layer of cement mortar is applied. As long as there are no hollows in the cement mortar, tiles can be adhered to the mortar surface.
4. When laying tiles, do not apply them from bottom to top in one go. Instead, divide the process into two to three stages. Wait for the adhesive to harden and the tiles to be securely bonded after each stage before proceeding to the next.
5. On polymer cement waterproof coatings, when using the traditional thick-laminating method, i.e., applying tiles with cement mortar, it is crucial to strictly control the water-cement ratio. Leave gaps and avoid early grouting to prevent the waterproof coating from being continuously wetted, which can lead to poor adhesion strength. The cement mortar itself (thickness up to 2-5 cm) combined with the weight of the tiles (over 20-40 kg per square meter) far exceeds the load the waterproof coating can bear, inevitably causing the tiles to separate from the waterproofing layer on vertical surfaces.
